Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim endures the pressure during the three-one defeat at Brentford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim confesses he is unable to conceal from his disappointing performance and believes it is understandable that club legends are criticizing him.

On Tuesday, the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney told his podcast that "the heart has vanished" from his former club.

The Portuguese manager has achieved just 18 wins from his 49 matches in control, featuring nine out of thirty-three in the Premier League, where he has still to achieve two successive wins.

Although high-level club sources are insistent that the INEOS chief is still supportive the manager, an inability to beat newly promoted their next opponents on the weekend will spark new speculation about his position heading into another two-week international break.

"It is understandable," stated the Portuguese coach, when asked about Rooney's comments. "You cannot run away from the outcomes."

"Furthermore you have the history from the previous campaign, [although] that period for me is irrelevant."

Fan Response and Current Circumstances

Manchester United's fans stayed behind their manager following last season's dismal performance, when they ended up 15th in the league - their lowest showing since the 1973-74 relegation season - and were defeated in the European showpiece, in the belief that this season would be significantly better.

The manager assured fans the circumstances would get better because he had additional opportunity to prepare with his squad without the weekly distraction of continental competition.

That is not how the opening six fixtures have materialised as Manchester United have experienced 3 defeats already and sit 14th in the league.

Manager's Response to Concerns

When questioned what promises he could provide followers that the position will get better, the manager added: "This is not the moment to speak, it is the time to show."

"Personally review the fixtures in the current campaign and, for me, they are completely distinct, but I have little to comment at this moment."

  • Manchester United currently occupy the fourteenth position in the top flight
  • The manager has secured just 18 of his 49 matches in charge
  • Wayne Rooney recently questioned the team's current situation
  • The upcoming fixture against Sunderland is crucial for Amorim's position
